Founder and Chairman of Unlimited Grace, a radio and online Bible-teaching ministry, and President Emeritus of Covenant Theological Seminary in St. He is an author, conference speaker, and also serves on the faculty of Knox Theological Seminary, Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary and is an adjunct professor of preaching at numerous seminaries nationally and internationally. Chapell married Kathleen Beth Gabriel on May 31, 1978, and the two have four adult children and a growing number of grandchildren. Chapell began pastoral ministry at Woodburn Presbyterian Church in Woodburn, Illinois in 1976 and subsequently pastored Bethel Reformed Presbyterian Church in Sparta, Illinois from 1978-1985. On Easter, 2013, he became Senior Pastor of the historic Grace Presbyterian Church in Peoria, Illinois and continues to minister in that capacity. In 2015, Chapell and members from Grace Presbyterian Church founded Unlimited Grace Media, an independent non-profit media ministry dedicated to spreading the gospel of God’s grace to all people.
He hosts a daily half-hour radio Bible teaching program called “Unlimited Grace,” which began airing in 2016 both nationally and internationally. Chapell is a speaker in churches and conferences around the world, preaching and lecturing on topics including grace, marriage, worship, and Christ-centered preaching. Chapell’s classic book “Christ-Centered Preaching” has established him as one of the nation’s most recognized teachers of preaching and is available in numerous languages and editions around the world. He has also written many academic and devotional articles as well as lyrics to several hymns. Chapell is a founding member of The Gospel Coalition and continues to serve with its leadership.
Chapell has served with the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association both in national crusades and in ministries to China. In November 2009, Chapell signed an ecumenical statement known as the Manhattan Declaration calling on evangelicals, Catholics and Orthodox to support the religious right to address issues of poverty, human trafficking, abortion, same-sex marriage, and other matters that go against religious conscience. Chapell has served in numerous roles of academic leadership, including the Standards Committee of the Association of Theological Schools. In the first few weeks of this book review blog’s launch, I will be editing and re-posting book reviews that I have done in the past. I gave at my Christian Fellowship large group gathering on the impact of Christian Hedonism on me. I’m not sure about you, but until recently, I didn’t know the Westminster Shorter Catechism. The Catechism is basically a summarized theological exposition done in a question and answer format. It was written in 1647 and has served as a tool to teach children about the Christian faith.
